An awesome review! (That I think is extremely fair & Accurate)

G. Edward Martin's novelette "Truth and Evil" is a thought-provoking and gripping story of a young German soldier in WWII who is given chance after chance to learn the lessons God gives us all: to love your fellow man and to speak the truth always.
The author wonderfully illustrates how simple this sounds and yet how incredibly difficult it can actually be. The main character is taken through his life, again and again, in various stages, so that he can be tested. He makes the wrong decision and he is back where he started. He makes the right decision, and he is presented with a new challenge. Each time he fails, he has to face God, which is more humiliating and frightening than the trial that got him there.
This is a very short story, but it is proof that it doesn't take a long story to prove an important point. This was wonderfully written and I couldn't stop reading until I finished it. The only people that I can see that might have problems reading this book are people exposed to trauma, specifically rape, and people of other religions beside Christianity. However, other religions also have views of good and evil, and of right and wrong. If the reader is able to put the labels of religions aside and read this story as an example of good versus evil, perhaps we could all come to the same conclusion, under whatever name it is called. This book was perfectly edited, engaging, and it stuck in my mind long after I finished reading it. These things, to me, are the hallmark of a perfect story.

During the height of World War 2, a young German soldier on the Russian front is unexpectedly killed moments after committing a heinous and unforgivable crime. After his soul is hurled through the aether, he finds himself surrounded by blinding light and standing before God to explain his actions and face judgement.

In this powerful WW2 religious historical fiction, instead of condemning the young man’s soul, God mysteriously sends him back to earth to relive the moment until he can change the outcome and come to understand the nature of truth and evil.

This challenging World War II short story follows the young soldier’s harrowing journey as he faces off against the father of all lies and confronts the worst and best of humanity, both outside and inside of himself, as he learns first-hand our capacity to commit unspeakable evil and our potential to embody the divine courage needed to combat that evil and restore balance in the world.

As God slowly rebuilds the young man’s soul through his excruciating journey across several iterations of a living hell, the young soldier becomes greater than just a man, and his tribulations help change the entire course of history as we know it.

This potent two-hour read is an exceptionally unique short story novelette in that it is told from the perspective of a villain who believes he is the hero.
